Mr. Adkins (Philip) was raised in Sussex County, Delaware, and attended Indian River High School. After graduation Philip then perused an education in fine art and attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA where he earned his BFA in metal Smithing and glass blowing. Philip moved back to Delaware and worked with the local schools and their art programs. He opened his own art studio focusing on handcrafted glass, ceramic, and metals.
Working from his studio in Dagsboro, Delaware Philip decided to pursue his education further and attended Wilmington University and earned his Masters’s degree in Elementary Education and also completed certification for k-12 art education. He then began teaching art at the Indian River School District as well as 3rd grade.
Philip moved to Bradenton Florida in 2019 and perused his teaching working with Family Resources ( a non-profit shelter for at-risk children in Florida ages 10-17) while In Bradenton Philip worked with at-risk youth working on grade-appropriate tutoring and mentoring as well as teaching life skills, including cooking and gardening as well as study habits, mindfulness and a number of other life enriching activities.
Philip is an enthusiastic learner and loves to work with children to explore their curiosity for the world. He is a father of 3 children ages 15,12 and 8. Philip is excited to share his life long love of learning with the children in his 4th-grade class based on their interests and playing to their strengths.
