My Buttons, my buttons…
My four groovy buttons! If you have small children you probably recognized that line and will now have the tune stuck in your head for the rest of the day. (Sorry.) But super catchy jingle aside, last week Island Prep celebrated one of my favorite weeks of the year…It was Pete the Cat Week! I am unabashedly a huge fan of the Pete books. The throwback language, the laidback vibe, the bright colors, and yes, even the songs, I love it all. The books have simple and positive messages that reinforce resilience too, something I am always working on with my children.
During Pete the Cat week the classes read several different Pete books, then the students participate in a variety of corresponding activities and crafts. The books have so many different learning opportunities! There is color recognition, counting, shapes, and so much more.
The possibilities with Pete the Cat themed activities are endless and can be easily replicated at home! One of our teachers created an adventure through red and blue paint, a la Pete the Cat and his white shoes! My kids love anything to do with paint so you know they would be game for this.
The Pete website is also a great resource. There are videos, songs, dances, and printables.
Should I stop my Pete fangirling now? Fine, fine. Do you have a favorite Pete the Cat book? Which one? I want to hear all about it on Instagram or Facebook @islandprep! There might be a super cool book I don’t know about! (But I doubt it…hmmm)
