Third Grade Classroom

Island Prep Third Grade curriculum opens new doors and new ideas

In our Third Grade we strive to engage all students in a variety of ways that inspire them, cultivate creativity and find strength in themselves. We work hard to make the classroom environment a family in which everyone feels safe, welcomed, accepted and treated with respect. It is imperative to take the time to learn each student as an individual and understand what motivates them. In our third grade classroom, there are many examples of cooperative learning in which students evolve their social skills, learning from each other and working as a team. It is important that students use their innovative and imaginative skills along with hands-on methods to enrich their educational experience. Our goal is to teach students not only the importance of education but the importance of a whole child education, allowing them to apply those skills they master in the classroom to real world experiences. Our third grade class comes together as a community to lift each other up and to teach each other that there is no better way to succeed than to try.

Enrichment Classes

Our Enrichment Program takes a thematic approach to the arts, sciences, technology, music, and much more. In a given week students will be found studying Vikings, their culture, the geography and environment of the Scandinavian region, the music they played, the artistry in their carved ships. Another week may be the study of Peruvian tribes that live on islands made of reeds, students gathered cutting from the school grounds and made a science lesson to discover which plants would float the best when woven together.
